The Amalfi coast is consider ed by UNESCO a Mediterranean landscape. Coming from Naples, Positano is the first town of the Amalfi coast.
Looking at Positano from the sea, it seems like a painting in watercolors for its multiple shades: the green of Lattari mountains in the background, the white, yellow and pink of the houses, the silver grey of its pebble beaches and the blue of the sea. Positano is known for its local small boutiques and has numerous villas built by the ancient Romans.
Amalfi, which gives the name to the coast, was between the 9th and 11th century, and was a maritime republic and a powerful city. In the heart of the town stands out the majestic Arab-Norman Sant’Andrea Cathedral, with a bizantine facade and at only 60m we find also the famous Heaven’s Cloisters. Amalfi has also a long history of the production of paper exhibited at the Paper Museum.
