Since then, Vesuvius has erupted periodically every 80-110 years and the last eruption of the volcano took place in 1944; the only traces of the volcano's activity today are the fumaroles, which is why it is constantly monitored and still represents a serious danger for the cities located on its slopes, in particular the lively metropolis of Naples.
